Love and Toil
“Love this post by XXX” is a fairly frequent occurrence in my LinkedIn content. Only, increasingly the XXX appears to be increasingly AI generated than written by a person. I’m not a linguist, and there are probably some technical terms that describe these elements, but there are appear to be some familiar “marks” that characterise AI generated content. And frankly, I don’t love it. There will likely be an increasing fusion between human-AI content, with what’s human and what’s AI increasingly difficult to discern. And here’s where I think it matters. The product is increasingly disconnected from a (human) process. Where we may prize productivity and efficiency, we lose craft and toil. And if anyone enjoys artisanal bread, you can recognise the difference. There are an abundance of threads that could unfurl from this appreciation, but if you want to learn about making your own bread, would you rather go to the artisan or the factory?
